The honest science
Nature will not let the looker be removed from the description.
That sentence is real physics. Most of what gets built on top of it is not. This page keeps the two apart, claim by claim, so you can see exactly where the ground ends.
Every claim below carries a tag. The tags are not decoration — they are the point of the page. Anyone can tell you a story about physics and the mind. Almost nobody tells you which rung of the ladder they are standing on.

The experiment
Send very small things — particles of light, or electrons — at a barrier with two narrow openings, one at a time. Let them land on a screen behind it.
If nothing records which opening each one went through, the marks pile up into stripes: a pattern that only makes sense if each thing somehow went through both. Now add a detector that records which opening was used. The stripes vanish. You get two plain heaps, as if each thing simply went through one side.
Nothing about the particles changed. What changed is whether the path information exists. This has been run for a century, refined, checked, and made harder to explain away. It is not controversial and it is not fringe. It is in the textbooks.
What physicists agree on
The setup is part of the result. You cannot describe what showed up without describing how it was looked at. Ask a particle question, get a particle answer; ask a wave question, get a wave answer. Both answers are correct, and you do not get to have both at once.
That much is settled. It is strange, and it is not mystical — it is measured, predicted to many decimal places, and used every day in working technology.
What nobody has settled
What counts as a measurement? A detector is a machine. So is a camera, and so, in the end, is a body. Where in that chain does the pattern actually collapse — and does it collapse at all, or does it only look that way from inside?
There are several serious answers and no agreement. Careful people who understand the mathematics completely still disagree about what it means. If someone tells you this question is closed, they are telling you about themselves, not about physics.
A serious idea that is not established
A few well-regarded physicists suspect that awareness is not the kind of thing a computer does, and that it may be woven into the world at a deeper level than we currently describe. This is a real hypothesis held by real scientists.
It is also unproven, contested, and a minority position. We mention it because leaving it out would be its own kind of dishonesty, and we tag it because presenting it as settled would be worse. Do not build anything on it.
The careful line
What we are not saying.
We are not saying that thinking about something makes it happen. We are not saying attention moves objects, changes test results, or affects a bank balance. We are not saying physics has proved anything about who you are.
None of that follows, and the people selling it know it does not. The behaviour of very small things under measurement is not a licence to say whatever you like about minds. If this page ever starts sounding like it is proving the rest of the site, we have made a mistake and you should trust the rest of the site less.
The rhyme, flagged as a rhyme
Here is what we do take from it, and it is a comparison rather than a conclusion.
The way you attend to a day is part of what the day turns out to be. Walk into the same dinner braced for a fight and you will collect evidence of a fight. Walk in curious about what the other person is actually afraid of, and a different evening is available — not because reality bent, but because attention is not a neutral window. It is part of the setup.
That is an honest observation about ordinary life. You can check it this week. It is not physics, it does not inherit physics's authority, and we would say it even if the experiment had come out differently.
How something is looked at is part of what appears. Nature will not let the looker be removed from the description. Neither will your day.
The inward version of this needs no equipment and no funding. Sit still tonight for ten minutes and watch what happens to a worry when you stop arguing with it and simply look at it. Write down one sentence about what you actually observed, not what you expected.
That is an experiment, run properly, with a sample size of one. Run it enough times and you will have your own data, which is the only kind that will ever convince you.
