The doors

Six ways back to what is already looking.

Six doors into the same house, opening from six different streets. You only need one, and you get to pick it.

Each of these is a way of returning to the quiet that is already watching your day. Nothing is added to you. Nothing gets built. You stop taking the thinking for yourself, and what was always here is easier to notice.

These are not steps. There is no order. Nobody starts at the first and graduates out the last, and not one of them is further along than another. A week inside the door that grips you is worth more than a year inside the one you picked because it sounded serious. So take whichever one you cannot stop thinking about, and leave the other five alone until you want them.

One more thing, said plainly. The people who worked these six out over the last few thousand years did not all come back with the same answer about what you are. Some of what they concluded flatly contradicts what the others concluded. We are not going to smooth that over for you, and we are not going to tell you who won. Each door below says where it disagrees with its neighbours, in plain words, on its own page. You do not have to settle any of it to begin.

If you read all six and want a rule, here is the only one we have: the door you keep circling back to is your door. Not the one that sounds most impressive. Not the one that fits the person you would like to be.

You need one door, not six.

So, before you scroll back up — which of those six did you already know was yours?
